DocuSign eWitness Q&A
DocuSign eWitness allows organizations to enable signers to identify up to two witnesses to sign an agreement in a legal and confidential manner. eWitness captures the witness information in the Certificate of Completion to support any legal disputes:
- Digitize paper deeds and sensitive agreements by enabling seamless electronic witnessing
- Capture witness details for traceability and audit
- Preserve agreement confidentiality with limiting witness access post-signing
You can add a Witness to an envelope by selecting the Signs with Witness recipient type.
You can also add a Witness by selecting Add Witness Group from the ADD RECIPIENT dropdown.
Q: Can you add multiple Witnesses?
A: Yes. An envelope can include both witnessed signers and regular recipients, as described in Add Recipients. And you can use a signing order to create a workflow for your envelope.
Q: How do I add this feature to my account?
A: Some advanced features and options are supported only in certain DocuSign plans. This feature is considered an Advanced Solution. For more information, create a case on our Contact Support Page.
Q:Can I require that witnesses pass identity verification?
A: Yes, DocuSign eWitness allows you to require identity verification for witnesses, as well as signers. For more details on adding identity verification to witnesses, see the "Set up witnessed signing for a recipient" section of this guide.
Note: Only ID Check, SMS Authentication, and Phone Authentication are supported with eWitness at this time.
Q:Can I use the DocuSign mobile app to set up an envelope for witnessed signing?
A: Not yet. DocuSign mobile apps do not currently support setting up and sending envelopes with a witness recipient. Witnessed signing is supported on mobile devices.
