Issue

Attempting to Sign using an Access Code re-prompts the user to enter the code and occasionally fails with the following error:
 
Error: There was an error processing your request: This envelope was opened in another browser session. Your signature has been reset, please adopt your signature again and complete signing. 

Possible Causes

Signer clicks a DocuSign REVIEW DOCUMENT link in the email notification. The DocuSign link has been wrapped by Proofpoint email spam defense similar to this:

When this link is clicked the Signing ceremony begins by landing on the envelope authentication page the user completes the authentication and starts executing the document. While this is occurring the Proofpoint application is following the docusign.net link in a background process from a different server. When the Proofpoint application does this it voids the DocuSign authentication attempt that the user has already passed. 

So when the user tries to complete the signing the DocuSign server sees that authentication is not passed and takes the user back to re-authenticate. This can also cause pages to fail to display after the signing session has begun. The user will then be able to sign after the second authentication.

Solution

Recipient will need to reach out to their IT department to allow email from docusign.net from with in Proofpoint. How to tune Proofpoint Essentials Spam detection?
